About Institute
The Institute of Art &
Design was previously known as the Department of Fine Arts which was
founded in 1970 at
University of Sindh, Jamshoro, with two years Bachelor of Art program. In 1985,
Masters of Arts was introduced with advance level syllebus
for meeting the needs of Job Market.
Currently, The Institute
of Art and Design offers a four-year academic program in Fine
Arts, Communication Design, Textile Design and Art History.
Four-year (8 semesters) studio and research program is designed to
encourage students to further develop their individual style and
understanding of art. BFA syllabus is in accordance with the HEC
academic policies and for meeting the current job market available in various fields
related to art such as teaching Fine Arts subjects at College and
University level, advertising Industry, Textile Industry, Multimedia,
Interior Design and professional artist and designer.
Degree Program
The four-year academic
program will be called as BFA-I, BFA-II, BFA-III and BFA IV. All the
selected students are enrolled in
BFA-I for studying the foundation
courses. Thereafter, in second year BFA-II, students will be able to sign
up for their major area of discipline such as
Fine Arts,
Communication
Design,
Textile Design or in
Art History. After completing two years of
studies, if any student for any reason desires to discontinue his/her
studies, he/she will be entitled to receive BFA (pass) degree only. After
completing fourth year BFA-IV, (eight semester of studies) in any one of
the selected major disciplines, student (s) will be awarded BFA degree
with the title of major discipline such as, BFA Fine Arts Major, BFA
Communication Design Major, BFA Textile Design Major, or BFA Art History
Major.
The fourth year of the BFA
program with any of the major field of studies is equavalant of M.A.
degree as per notification of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan
vide HEC No. 8-61/HEC/A&A/2005/2036 dated 30th September 2005.
Post Graduate Program
The Institute of Art and
Design offers M.Phil leading to Ph.D. in Art and Design. The details of

programs". Furthermore two year M.A. Art Education evening program for
school art teachers is also offered, further detail is available in
M.A. Art Education
program.
Department
of Fine Arts
The Department of Fine Arts offers a
comprehensive four-year studio courses such as Drawing, Painting,
Printmaking, sculpture and theory courses. During the studies, students
are provided studio facilities to explore their individual creative talent
and develop sense of perception and aesthetic. Students are familiarized
with the techniques, materials and processes of various mediums, and are
encouraged to sharpen their observation and skills in the visual arts.
Department of
Communication Design
Communication design focuses on the study
of design, Advertising, Marketing, aesthetics and creation of mediated
communication through color and design. The department of Communication
Design aspires to develop professionalism by raising student's level of
visual, aural and written communication, as well as their critical
thinking ability. Students are provided the opportunity to gain knowledge
and skills in a wide array of highly integrated design application for
meeting the changing demands of local market and industry. The department
advances knowledge as well as skills needed for future employment in
Graphic Communication, multimedia, advertising industry, Print Media,
Video, Animation and Digital Imaging.
Department of Textile Design
Department of Textile Design
offers a multidisciplinary courses ranging from printing, weaving,
knitting, fashion design and fashion illustration. The emphasis is placed
on regional ornaments design and patterns. Students have excess to a wide
variety of studio facilities, such as screen-printing studio, dying and
printing, hand loom weaving and printing studios, also a computer Lab
facilities.
Department
of Art History
It is first time in the history of Pakistan
that, the Department of Art History is introduced in the Institute of Art
and Design at University of Sindh. Students of Art History department have
the research facilities within the Institute as well as in Allama I.I.
Kazi Central Library and Institute of Sindhology Library. Art History students are trained as scholars and
researchers on various aspects of Arts and Crafts of Sindh and Pakistan.
